They sound like cheap car speakers. If your music software has an EQ, increase the volume on your PC to the max, keep the speaker volume at 5, boost the bass EQ a little, cut the mid EQ a lot, and boost the treble EQ a lot. (NOTE: the USB cable for the SI-5 is sold separately. However, I teach classes and like to start the day with some music, and these speakers are perfect for quiet background music from my PC. They'll sound ok at low volume, and they're so small and light won't even notice you have them in your luggage. Sonic Impact Technologies Gen2 is basically the same speaker but it comes with a USB cable). The sound from these speakers is mediocre at best: lots of midrange, very little bass.
if you just want something to play your cd or mp3 player outloud this is the thing to get, it's cheap and has great quality its not the best sound when you turn it up all the way but otherwise its wicked good. the sound it pretty good if you keep it at a resonable level.
if you plan on playing them even slightly loud the distortion is incredible after reading the excellent reviews, i was very disappointed with the sound quality from these speakers.
Great for travel as they are very compact. There is no deep bass, but I expected that. Also, the surround effect is nice especially when you have the spakers placed on your work table at near-ear level. For 20$, these are very impressive little speakers. However, if you want pounding bass you should maybe look into a subwoofer design, but then again those will not be so compact and inexpensive :) Good job, Sonic. But, give them a chance, they impressed me a lot once I truned them on (and I am an audiophile). They look a lot chaper than they sound; the cardboard-like grill did not impress me. The mid bass and the highs are much cleaner than I expected.
I only regret not waiting another day because Circuit City here had them on sale for $17.99 and I also had a $5.00 off coupon which would have brought the price down to $12.99. I bought them this past Saturday at BestBuy and hooked them up almost immediately to my Sony MD Walkman. All I can say is "What a surprise." I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for compactness, good sound and an incredibly great price in travel speakers. Just spent the last month checking the internet for portable speakers to take on vacation. That would have been an even more incredible bargain for what you are getting for the little bit of money being spent. When I first saw the price of the SI-5, I thought "They can't sound very good for that price but after reading all the reviews on amazon.com and a few other sites I decided to purchase these. I wanted something as small as possible, good sound and a modest price. If they turned out not so great sounding, I could return them and start my quest all over again.
